"The Holy Spirit reminded me that God had told me to wait."
Scripture Reference: John 14:25-26 “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
I was looking for a new job and waiting on God to reveal what was next. While it’s important to be proactive when job searching, God had told me to wait. I knew God would provide, and I knew He would open the door, but He wasn’t working fast enough for me.
I tend to be a fixer and a problem-solver and so one morning I decided I would take this into my own hands. I made a few phone calls in response to job postings, and I secured an interview for the following week.
The achiever in me felt great about what I had just accomplished, but I started to feel sick to my stomach. Over the next few hours I felt worse, like my stomach was in knots.
I finally prayed about it and I knew that it wasn’t a stomach bug or anything I ate. I knew in my heart that I had stepped outside of God’s will, and that my stomach was in knots because I was at odds with His plans. The Holy Spirit reminded me that God had told me to wait.
In John 14:25-26, Jesus tells the disciples that the Holy Spirit would remind them of what Jesus had told them. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
I’m so thankful for the reminder I got that day. I called and canceled the interview and almost immediately my stomach pain disappeared.
The Holy Spirit speaks to us through opportunities and circumstances if we’re willing to listen. And thankfully, even on days when I’m rebellious, the goodness of God extends beyond my disobedience when the Holy Spirit reminds me of what I know to be true. God is faithful and worthy of my total surrender, even when His timing is different than mine.
A short time later, God opened the door for me to join the staff at CrossRoad Church and I will forever be grateful. I am so glad the Holy Spirit reminded me that God had told me to wait!
Questions to dig deeper:
Is there an area in your life where you’re waiting on God to move? Take a moment and talk with Him about that. Tell Him how you’re feeling and invite Him to encourage you.
Could there be an area in your life where you need a gentle reminder from the Holy Spirit? Ask God to remind you of His truth today. Wait and see what He reveals, and then pray about that.
I invite you to pray this prayer: “God, I thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to guide me in all circumstances. God I trust Your timing with , and I claim Your peace and patience until I have heard a clear answer from You. Would You help me to boldly seek Your truth, not my own understanding, and would You continue to remind me of Your faithfulness in all things. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen”.
